Sharing with you ONE of my two very favorite Christmas goodies today! I might eat my salads most days, but I totally believe in enjoying a sweet here or there! The key – I’m going to make sure it’s worth it! So I’m choosing my very favorite and make sure it’s super satisfying.
The original recipe uses milk chocolate, but I’m a bit of a chocolate snob 😉 and really prefer dark chocolate, so that’s what I use here. Also, be sure to not overcook the middle nougat layer – I’ve found the trick is to bring it to a light boil, not a voracious boil. 🙂
I made a double batch and will carefully cut them and put them in the freezer for some holiday parties! They are called “Homemade Snickers Bars,” and always go over really well at any extended family gathering. I’ll warn you – they aren’t the quickest to make, so you’ll want to give yourself a little time, but they are WELL worth it!
Snickers Bars
Layer #1 – Melt together and spread in a 9×13 pan. (Allow to cool)
- 1 Cup Milk Chocolate Chips
- 1/4 Cup Peanut Butter
- 1/4 Cup Butterscotch Chips
Layer #2 – boil the following ingredients for 5 minutes
- 1 cup White Sugar
- 1/4 cup Milk
- 1/4 cup Margarine
And then add in:
- 1/4 cup Peanut Butter
- 1 Cup Marshmallow Creme
- 1 tsp. Vanilla
Pour this mixture over the cooled chocolate layer.
Layer #3 – Sprinkle on:
- 1 cup of chopped Dry Roasted Peanuts
- Melt 20 Caramels and 2 tbsp of hot water together and drizzle that over the peanuts.
Layer #4 – Melt together and spread on top of the caramel layer:
- 1 cup Milk Chocolate Chips
- 1/4 cup Butterscotch chips
- 1/4 cup Margarine
Let cool and keep the bars refrigerated.
Have you made homemade Snickers Bars yourself or tried them before? Let me know what you think! IMO – they are WAY better than regular snickers!
These are my favorite, too, Tanya!! Well worth the time and dirty dishes…and everyone loves them at get togethers!!!
Oh I’m so glad to hear you all enjoy them too:)
