Every so often, it’s fun to share a few things I love in hopes that it might help you, too, if you’re shopping for some comfortable, timeless items to add to your closet.
Over the past few years, my closet has taken a hard turn toward quality athleisure, as most of my days are spent exercising with patients, cleaning my house, doing laundry, running errands, and sitting in gyms. These items are ones that I’m willing to spend a little more on, knowing that they will get a ton of wear, and I hope to still be using them in another 5 years! I’m done having babies, and my size has stayed relatively the same for the past few years, so it’s easier to choose quality over quantity when I know I’m not in a stage of life where my body is constantly changing. Most of the items here, however, are loose-fitting and would be great options for early pregnancy and postpartum as well. 🙂
I always try to purchase from Fair Trade brands when possible to support businesses taking active steps against slave labor. These are a few of my favorites this fall, and hopefully, if you keep an eye out, most of these brands will have some holiday sales coming up!
- Athleta Seasoft midrise straight pant—These pants are new to me this fall and are not only soft but also have a really nice drape. I do find the black color has a semi-washed look to it—they’re not pure black, so just keep that in mind. I would say they lean slightly more wide-leg than straight fit.
- Athleta Easy Fleece Crewneck sweatshirt – I got this sweatshirt on sale for my daughter, and then when it went on sale again, I grabbed one for myself as well! I’m 5’10”, so I bought it in the tall length. I love its length, but I think I would have found it too cropped for my personal taste if I had stayed at the regular length. Even if you’re a little shorter than me, you might want to consider the tall version if cropped isn’t your thing. It’s a nice weight for fall/winter and has some fun, bright colors…or some great neutrals as well.
- Athleta Forever Fleece ¼ zip sweatshirt – This is SUCH a soft, cozy sweatshirt for fall and winter as well! It’s a little longer and oversized. I recommend sizing down – I find it still oversized even though I did go down a size. I did NOT order the tall length and found it plenty long. It could easily be worn with joggers, leggings, or jeans on a casual day.
- Athleta Venice High Rise Jogger—This has been one of my go-to favorite joggers for the past couple of years. I wear it for casual and work all the time, as I feel it looks a little dressier than your average joggers. I have these in black, navy, and creamy beige. I love them all, but I have really enjoyed the cream ones this fall for a change from my basic black!
- Varley Delfern Jacket – Anything from Varley is a splurge, but the quality is so impressive, and these timeless pieces could truly last in your closet for a decade. I personally love Varley because they look nice enough that I can wear them to work or even out to a game or dinner, but they are cozy enough that I’ll also reach for them when I’m just at home or running some errands. I’ve grabbed a few Varley items over the past few years, and every piece still looks brand new. Hint: I’ve found some pieces at my local Scheels on sale – Varley rarely has sales on their online site except for a few end-of-season pieces.
- Varley Roselle Half Zip Fleece – This great, cozy half zip works perfectly with joggers or some wide-leg pants. It is a little on the cropped side, but it works for me without showing anything, 😉 So it should work for you too!
- Vuori Sedona Rib Half Zip—This reminds me of the Lululemon sweatshirt that my daughter and her friends wear, but in a more grown-up version. 😉 Vuori always has these soft, beautiful colors, and the weight and length of this shirt are absolutely perfect. It works with joggers, pants, or casual jeans as well.
- Vuori Performance Jogger – I’ve been wearing these joggers for the past 4-5 years!! I own about 3 pairs b/c I probably wear them 3x/week – they’re that good! Grab your regular size for a more fitted version, or go up a size up if you want a looser leg. They also come in a long inseam version which is what I always buy. My oldest daughter is 5-8″ and she also wears the long version.
- Veja Campo Leather Sneakers—I’ve had these Veja sneakers for at least three years, and they still look brand new. This is a fantastic fair trade brand, and I highly recommend them for sneakers that will stand the test of time!
- On Cloud Cloudnova 2 – I really like to have a neutral pair of sneakers to run around in that I don’t use for workouts or walking. On Cloud never disappoints; these are comfy and cuter than your average tennis shoe.
- Able hoop earrings are my go-to earring for almost every outfit. They are the perfect length; they look good with hair down but aren’t gaudy with hair up. I wear them often with athleisure, and they just make an outfit look a little more put together.
- Noonday necklace – I’ve had this necklace for years. It’s a super simple, short necklace that’s perfect for everyday wear.
- Birkenstock clogs – New to me this year, these clogs are true to Birkenstock standard – they may not be the cutest thing to look at, but they ARE comfortable and just super easy to slip on when you’re running out the door. I liked the newer version with the larger gold buckle, leather vs. suede, and a nice neutral color. My oldest daughter made fun of me when I got them, and now, apparently, we’re sharing them. 😉
- Able Berkeley Belt Bag – I hopped on the belt bag train a few years ago and have never gotten off. I have a very casual black Varley bag that was my first purchase, and this one was a second, slightly more dressed-up version. They’re just so convenient to grab for the essentials. When I’m heading to ball games where I know the bleachers will be crowded, a belt bag is a nice go-to for my wallet and phone while taking up very little space, and I still have my hands free to grab kids, drinks, snacks, etc.
- Athleta Whisper Featherless Puffer Jacket—This is truly the best lightweight, warm, flattering jacket. I had a longer version a couple of years back, but I love the shorter version better, especially for quick errands and running in and out of gyms. I wanted to try this new gold color after getting my colors done this spring, but the black would also be fantastic for a great fall/winter basic.
