I have a super fun story for you this week. I saw a patient recently who contacted me for some postpartum help. She had gone to another pelvic PT postpartum who was more local to her (she lives 1.5 hours from me), and though these visits were helpful, she still felt like something was missing. She wanted to get back into running but just didn’t feel like her body was ready and was questioning whether it was safe for her to begin.
She made the trek over to Orange City for a visit, and then we followed up with 1 more appointment virtually after that. She contacted me this week to tell me that she went for a six-mile run with her double-jogging stroller and felt fantastic! Not only was I shocked and THRILLED with how well she was doing, but I was a little sad 😅 b/c I just really love my patients and thought I’d see her for a little longer! Instead, she reached her goals in only TWO appointments and is back doing the activities she loves!
Her progress is NOT unusual. Most women think that PT is going to cost them a lot of time and $$, so they put it off, waiting for a “better time,” meanwhile, they are missing out on all sorts of things they love. But what if, in TWO appointments, your back pain was gone? You could run without leaking? Heal your ab separation? Feel great working out again? Play with your kids without worrying you might hurt something?
This work isn’t hard, and it doesn’t take a long time. If you have 5 minutes/day, you can do this! Stop delaying, hoping for a “better time.” One busy season replaces another, and there will always be a reason NOT to invest a tiny bit in feeling well.
