Motherhood Realization: life will always be busy…it’s just that the way busy looks changes through each stage of life.
I’m not going to lie – the start of the school year has NOT been what I expected. I expected to get MORE things done. I expected to find relief with 4 kids gone multiple days of the week. But I’m realizing that as we enter into a different stage of life, it doesn’t get less busy, it just gets busy in a different way.
And as I reflect, I thought I was SO busy in college – and I was! I ran cross country and track, I had biology labs in the afternoons, I studied hard to get A’s and I worked multiple jobs.
Then I went to grad school where we were back in school most of the day with long labs, and many many long hours of studying, while my husband worked 2 jobs to put me through.
Then we started “real jobs” and worked full time while doing house remodeling projects. We quickly got pregnant and had our first baby. The next years were a total blur – a baby every 2 years, moving to the farm, building a house, taking over a business, farming, and starting my own business as well.
And now I’m running a business both in-person and online, raising 5 kids, supporting my husband however I can, and I’ve transitioned from mom of littles to mom of multiple stages – hauling 5 kids to all their events while packing snacks and drinks and books to keep them all occupied. Planning meals well in advance b/c there is no time in the evening to cook. Trying my best to invest in each kid in the evening b/c I don’t see most of them during the day.
If you are waiting for busyness to end – don’t hold your breath. It doesn’t get less busy, it just changes. But please know I don’t take a bit of it for granted. Everything I listed has been a blessing from the Lord’s hand, and I continue to learn how to closely monitor the things I CAN control while letting go of things that simply aren’t for THIS particular season.
What’s YOUR current busy? And what blessings are you seeing in the middle of it?
