Gimme that

A few months ago I was told my hair was pretty damaged and in need of some help. I highlight my hair on the regular (my hair is kind of a dirty blonde without adding color) and I was using a fair amount of heat on it, and it was time to make some changes. Part of the problem is that I work out regularly, I didn’t have a dry shampoo I loved, and my hair gets greasy quickly and doesn’t air dry well (it’s kind of an ugly wave, so it really needs some help with heat).

I decided to make a few changes:

  1. Different hair products that had clean ingredients (I was using salon products but none were clean, and I’d struggled in the past to find clean products that still delivered great hair!)
  2. Less washing
  3. Less heat

I’m now down to 2 washes on average per week, and I try to line those up for days that my hair can mostly air dry, but I finish it out with a short blow dry with low heat to get the ends straight. Washing less and on more convenient days means less time for blow drying, less heat from the blow dryer, and subsequently less use of the curling iron as well, b/c typically my curls can last at least a couple of days.

I’ve used clean beauty products on my face/skin and cleaning products in my home for ages, but for whatever reason, the search for clean hair products has been a lot harder. I always felt like I was sacrificing how well my hair looked and styled when I used clean products.

I had heard of Prose (I’m sure I’ve been targeted by their ads for a while now! lol) but thought they were pretty pricey and I’m always afraid to try something and then not like it. They do have a 30-day return policy, but I’m never good at getting those things done! However, I loved the idea of getting a customized product specifically for me, my hair type, and the climate/environment that I live in, and I love that they have a full product line-up that could be helpful with some of my trouble points.

Based on the questions that I answered and the products recommended, I started with the shampoo and conditioner, the pre-shampoo scalp mask, and the leave-in conditioner to use as a heat protectant. I honestly have been thrilled with the results. You don’t need a lot of product, so though the bottles are small, they last forever, especially now that I’m only washing my hair 2x/a week. The scalp mask plays a huge part in this – I apply this 1x/week before I wash my hair and it really helps keep my roots fresh. The leave-in conditioner works great as a heat protectant AND gets tangles out (if you like “It’s a 10” you’ll like this product too).

Then the next month I decided to try the dry shampoo and it’s also been fantastic, and a big part of how I can go 3-4 days between washings, even when I work out regularly. It’s a powder, not an aerosol, and I think it works really well! My hair feels just as great as it did with the salon products, and I feel better about using all products with clean ingredients!

If you want to give them a try, I have a $10 off code for you here! Let me know if you try it and what you think!
