Are you on Team 🥳 or Team 😔 when it comes to back to school?
I’m definitely a summer girl – I love the heat, the fun, the sports, and the combination of water, sun, and sand. BUT…I also love order and schedules, and my home stays slightly cleaner and doesn’t constantly need groceries! 😂
So I fall somewhere in between, but overall, my desire for order and schedules trumps everything else by the time mid-August hits! With 5 kids in my home, it’s impossible to keep the house clean and the fridge/pantry stocked. I have no quiet time; my house generally feels chaotic, making it hard to get work done.
Whatever Team you fall into, if you’re a mom and feeling guilty about being Team 🥳, can I tell you that it’s okay? We’re all wired differently. I don’t love my kids any less. I also celebrate when summer starts and school ends! But my body and mind are ready for a new season, and I’m wired to crave order. That doesn’t mean I can’t operate without it, or that I’m not even CALLED to operate in my weaknesses. But I think that’s the beauty of God making seasons – the weather is seasonal, and our lives are seasonal. We need different things in different seasons, and we have a good God to carry us through the harder seasons and to help us when we’re not operating at optimal capacity.
In the same way, our bodies are seasonal, and there is a season for pushing harder and a season for rest. There’s a season for doing all the things our body likes to operate well, and there’s a season for so much grace where we just do the best we can, even though we’d maybe like to do more. It’s not normal to operate at 100% all the time. Yet, many of us feel like we “should” even after a new baby arrives, even when your toddler is keeping you up all night, even after the miscarriage and devastating grief, even when you’re in an insane season at work…you get the picture. While I’ll always tell you that you’re designed to thrive and I’d love to provide you with tools to get there… there’s a season for that too, and not all of you are in that season.
And that’s okay.
Here’s to a new season – whatever it looks like. As a fellow human, I may not have walked in your shoes, but I’ve experienced my own share of highs and lows. May you have the courage to PUSH if it’s a season that allows you to do so, and may you have the courage to REST if that’s what your season calls for.
Always cheering you on,
Tanya
