Five types of women who come to see me:
- The self-diagnosed researcher. You’ve spent hundreds of hours scouring IG for solutions. You’ve googled your symptoms and basically figured out what’s going on. You have a pretty good understanding of your inner core, pelvic floor, and exercises that might help. You’ve downloaded 23 free resources and probably purchased some course or membership. Yet you STILL haven’t quite gotten to the bottom of your issues. You come because you know you’re missing something, and you find out that coming to the expert is exactly what you need to put the pieces together.
- The “Do it all” Athlete – You love fitness, and it’s a big part of your identity. You’re strong, “fit,” and already doing 200% more than most people. But for all the things you do, your inner core is weak, and that’s why you’re still having symptoms. Most likely you’ll ignore them until the need is dire. You’ll struggle connecting to your inner core b/c you’re so focused on all the big muscle groups. “More is always better,” which means neuromuscular control is challenging. But you are faithful with your exercises, and you WILL get there!
- The “put it off” follower. You know you have issues, but the time is never quite right to do anything about them. You come into my office and say, “I’ve followed you for years,” knowing you could use some help but not taking the step to schedule an appointment. You’ll get better quickly and wish you had come in sooner b/c you discovered it’s not actually that hard and really isn’t all that much work to reach your goals. 🙂
- The “crunchy mom.” You probably had a midwife-assisted birth. You research everything, are into clean products, and care about what you put in and on your body. You are proactive and probably purchased my OB package. Regardless of your financial status, you don’t hesitate to pay cash for your health or to use functional medical providers because that is what you value. Simply put, you’ll do well on all aspects of PT and probably have a pretty smooth pregnancy, L&D, and postpartum recovery.
- The practical non-athlete – you don’t have a long history with sports, and you have zero goals of running a half marathon or joining CrossFit. You probably have some pain issue going on and some lingering pelvic floor issues from childbirth or simply aging. You might want to develop a strength training plan because you know it would be good for you, but at most, you want to live your life well, take care of your kids, and go for a daily walk. You actually will do very well! You are not as connected to all your major muscle groups, which makes it easier to connect with your inner core. I love your goals, and I’m absolutely thrilled to help you achieve them! You’ll have no problem getting better!
Of course, I see lots of types of patients, and you may identify with more than one! You don’t fit in a box, and I’m not trying to put you in one, but here is what I want you to know:
- No “type” determines if you can get better.
- Do you know what actually makes a difference?
Your belief that you CAN get better. Your ability to HOPE. That’s literally all you need. If you believe it’s possible, you already have a 90% chance that you will. Your body is designed to heal. But our belief affects our actions, which affects our behaviors. Put in the work – you will get the results you want.
Today – make the appt. See me. Stop wasting your days living with issues, and instead let’s help you feel great for the ones that you’ve been given.
